She's Done it! Serena Claims Year End World No.1 Ranking

It was her goal at the start of the year and she has achieved it. Serena Williams will end the year as the best player on the planet.
It will be the second time in her illustrious career that Serena will hold this prestigious and much sought after position. It's the year-end ranking that the players chase and she's got what everyone else wanted.
"2009 has been a truly memorable season for me during which I enjoyed some of the biggest wins of my career," Serena said. "Capturing the year-end World No.1 ranking is a huge accomplishment for me and I am thrilled that all the hard work has paid off."
It's been an amazing season for Serena and she is the one that deserves this accolade. She is the only woman to have won two Grand Slam crowns, the Australian Open and Wimbledon, which are among the cornerstones of the sport, she reached the semi finals of the US Open and quarters of the French Open, she was a finalist in Miami and had ten wins over top ten players. She excelled on the doubles court as well with Venus, winning three of the four Slams (Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open) as well as Stanford.
This marks the fifth time in Serena's career and the third time in 2009 that she has been World No.1. The last time she claimed the year-end top spot was in 2002.
She has won every major title at least once in her career for a total of eleven Slam crowns and is only the fifth women to achieve that, the others being Margaret Court, Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf.
Her year is not over yet; she is still playing the season-ending championships in Doha and will then spearhead the USA team in the Fed Cup final against Italy in Reggio del Calabria, Italy. After that it will be time for a short break before starting the 2010 season at the Medibank International in Sydney in January.

But at the end of the day; oops, I mean at the end of the year, the number 1 spot is yours. Plus you achieved the top ranking three different times this year. That brightens my day. ☼ ☺
Congratulations Rena on winning and becoming #1 once again.. I just watched the highlights between you and Vee.. Vee played a great match. This hasn't being a good year for Vee as far Tennis, but i'm sure she will rest and come back strong next year to win Wimbledon.. I like Vee regardless if she wins or not.:-) Anyway, it was a great game and i wish you the best..Rena, you are indeed one of the greatest female Tennis player of all time. I believe that Margaret Court is #1 and Steffi Graf is #2 of all time because she managed to win 22 Singles Grand Slams. To me winning the singles titles is not easy because you have to use your mind and noone esle can help you. It's not just hitting the balls back and forth.As far as winning the doubles, you have a partner which makes it a lot easier if there is a chemistry between the two. I wanted you to regain you No. 1 ranking, and I wanted Venus to win for other reasons. I suppose 1 out of 2 is not so bad. Hopefully Venus will do better next year. I can REALLY relate to this Serena. See, See this reminds me of the time I was named the BEST PLAYER ON THE PLANET. Actually I was named the BEST PLAYA PLAYA ON THE PLANET. and I got all kinds of awards and shit. I was winning the Playa Playa Championships in DoHaha and I also got a Federal Cup. Doha has the best Chocklate Yoho drinks. Them Feds was following me all the time. And I was always gettin Grand SLAMMED by my Haters. But I just brushed dem off. Now I didnt like the Australian Open too much cause the Kangaroos was always in my way and I would step on they tails and they would kick me but I won. And the US Open was a trip. Hi Serena, I like to see these world class athletes perform as well. Those that have team up with Mission Product-Skin Care, which I intend on purchases for my skin care needs. Ryan Sheckler is one of my favorite skate boarders, Carmelo Anthony, Mia Hamm, and Steve Nash, (male and female basketball). These players seem to be well rounded, and of course they're passionate about their individual sport. I'm so glad that you didn't put alot of tattoos on your beautiful, hersey complexioned skin.

Just enrolled @ one of my favorite Tennis Players site. I am an intense fan of Womens Tennis, and the Williams Sisters have brought a lot of delight and un-paralled intensisity to the game. Of course I watch with a critical point of view at all times. It is much easier for us the spectators to comment any easy way we wish, perhaps not knowing how challeging such a sport might be. Nevertheless, my most recent frustrations have been about Sister Venice Williams, which I hope she will hear about soon. Even before the Doha Doubles, I had just about given up on Venice over her aloofness and sometimes questionable mental tennis state. How she got through Dubia is another topic, but over the years, she sometimes comes across as daft champion. What prompted me to express my frustration over Venice is how she made Serena loss the Doha 2009 Womens Doubles Semi-Finals. This is not the first time I have seen her play abhorrent doubles and having Sweet Serena come out to bail her. Serena is just an exceptional person, I love her assertiveness, I love her sense of humor and her no-nonsense attitude when it counts. I know Serena is human and feels the pain when Venice frustrates her in doubles, fortunately for Venice, Serena gets to win the matches, this time Serena was pissed and disappointed, but I know she will have to pretend that all is well. Well here is a reality check, should Serena Williams pick another doubles partner so she can complete her legacy in a conscouis and dignified way. They are not inseparable and they weren't attached at birth. I just hope Venice doesn't have a problem she doensn't want to discuss, but I will suggest she retire graciously. Love u both, u r legends and what a LEGACY!
Hi Rena, Please let Venus know that it's okay to win. What I mean is this; if Vee wins, please don't sulk, because this would be damaging to both you and her. She has humbled herself to make you great, and so you do the same for her. If you do win, then make her feel just as special to you as she would make you feel to her. I don't want a repeat of what I've seen in times past Rena. Seriously, that's the only thing that deeply troubles me about you. I said to Venus, that I wish me and my sister had that seriously close bond with one another growing up. My mom died two years ago. We are now strengthening our bond as sisters. Please don't let your extreme competitive nature, create in you a spirit on selfish ambition toward your sister. Like I said, that's the only thing that you have done to deeply disturb me. Yes, success is awesome, along with the fringe benefits. However, nothing is more important, as you already know, than your relationship with your creator, because this world (this present system of things) is passing away and so is its desires. That being said my dear little sister, go forth and conquer, but don't forget what matters the most. I'm sure you won't.
