Life: On the Line

Hey Guys,

How are you?  I hope that all is well with you all.  I am well & extremely busy. As you all know, I have started my tour for my new book, "On the Line".  Yesterday, I was on Good Morning America which was wonderful.  Today, I started my morning pretty early. I had an early wake up call at 6 am in order to prepare for my first television appearance which was CNN's, American Morning.  I enjoyed the experience.  I am very thankful that I was given the opportunity to discuss my book, "On the Line".

On my way to the studio for Live with Regis & Kelly, I logged on to Twitter, Facebook, & MySpace to communicate with you all.  I enjoy reading your responses. You guys provide me with encouragement, laughter, & excitement.  It brings me comfort knowing that you all actually wake up or take time away from your schedule to watch me on television.  Next, I was on live with Regis & Kelly at about 9:30 am. No, I didn't stop at that point.

As you witnessed this morning there was a guy on the show, attempting to break the Guinness Book of World Records by sitting in an aquarium of ice.  Wow, shocking & cold!!!  But, what you all didn't know was that backstage I was presented with an award myself.  I was rewarded with a Guinness World Record myself for the most Hopman's Cup wins. Through all of the adversity & negativity, I am still able to be blessed for my hard work.

Leaving the studio of Regis & Kelly, I quickly reached for my phone & logged on to Twitter. Yes, I may be slightly addicted to Twitter.  But, you all have to admit that Twitter is pretty cool.  LOL.  I was able to announce that I would be at a Barnes & Nobles in New York City.  I provided the address & details but I never expected the feedback that I received.  It was wonderful to see my Twitter fans in person.  I was a bit late, but I posted an update & the responses continued to be positive.  I would like to thank everyone that was able to make it to the signing.  It was a pleasure meeting you all.

Xxxx,

S

Serena, I hope you continue to focus on what’s important in your life and that you are able to quiet the media noise by elevating your game to an even higher level. You and your sister have made history and so many positive contributions to women’s tennis. I am amazed by the number of people that felt obligated to leave negative comments on your site. One girl, Julie Schaffer said, “Take tennis out of your equation and what do you have left?” Is that possible? These are the same people that are sitting at home eating a bag of chips while you play your heart out and they have the audacity to pass judgment on you. Maybe the people making negative comments should shift their energy away from commentating on your life and focus it on discovering what they are passionate about and called to do on this earth. None of them will ever know what it feels like to be in your shoes, but that’s their problem. There are many of us that are thankful for your accomplishments and recognize you as the Fabulous woman God created. Stay positive, stay strong and continue to share your incredible gifts and talents with the world. Blessings.

I want you to know that this my first time ever writing a fan mail. I want you to know that you have supporters in me and my husband. You are like a daughter to us. Love you, love what you do. We understood the human emotions and understood your response. I have seen many players smash their rockets! or maybe I was having visions. Love the relationship with you and your sister. Keep caring for each other, that is valuable and rare. Luv. Tess.

Hi again Serena, I truly am proud of you! I can really see how are truly becoming a full grown, mature woman. Some of ppl just grow older. But to grow older with grace is like golden apples in a silver bowl, truly priceless! Keep going little sister. You have over 7,000,000 and growing daily, truly strong, spiritual brothers and sisters who have your best interest at heart, win or lose. I'll never discount those who are not of our faith, but I do know this; that if you are in the right we will die for you! Now, keep on progressing and growing in the truth.

Bonjour Serena! I am writing to you from Canada... Je parle francais mais je vais t'ecrire en anglais et j'espere que tu me comprendra... Here in Quebec we all appreciate tennis for it to be peaceful sport and equal for all ages and genders and nations... it is a sport where you need to respect others and act as respectful as possible. I just wanted to tell you the little "show" you did on tv was very hard to watch and I hope not see this again from you, nor from any other player. I have seen McEnroe's anger or other players before but you must realise that nowadays things like that are even less acceptable because they could be amplified with technologies. I am reading Pete Sampras' book at the moment and he talks about the show business side of tennis which he didnt want to focus on, but concentrated on his game. Well, I think you have decided to consider your tennis career as an important venue to do show business and therefore, I think you should be even more careful about your personal behavior. We were disappointed of you and upset for Kim Clijsters also, and hopefully you will do what is necessary to control yourself better next time. What you did was shown all around the globe and you have a responsibility towards us and your fans. Im sorry to say but what you do could be seen "live" in all countries so you must think twice before you speak. I hope you actually grow up from this, best of luck! Simon

Serena, you are such a joy. Thank you for being you. I do so love Venus, too. I have a really pet peeve that many, many celebraties do when they are being interviewed. I am not going to voice this opinion to anyone else. I don't care if anyone else uses this phrase. Do you mind ? Please, leave the words "you know" out of your vocabulary. Instead use a brief pause. You know. Incidentally, if you ever talk to Mary Carilla, please tell her that Helen thought her vicious words were completely uncalled for, and, "VICIOUS." Love, Helen

Serena, I have never written a fan letter or been a member of a club, ever. But I had to write and let you know that I'm in your corner all the way. I've watched you and Venus from the beginning and have seen all the negative things done to you both. It came to a head at the USO. I don't blame you for your outburst. One can only take so much. You understand the double standard. Your parents taught you well. Just continue to let your racquet do the talking. When you and Vee leave tennis, I'm not watching anymore. So, please stay a few more years, keep on breaking records and showing what a smart, intelligent, well-spoken, beautiful, and sassy African Princess can do. And know that when they try to bring you down, there are millions of fans like me who are with you, at home, screaming for you through our TV sets. No matter what crowd you face, you are not alone. Glad to see you all over the TV giving interviews and selling your book. I will get my copy. Remember, keep your cool and let the racquet do the talking, as you usually do. I'm 69 years old and so proud of you and your family. I'm blessed to be living in your era and seeing you live and watching you rake in the dough and accumulate those wins.

Comment by : James Mudry Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Keep up the good work! Started reading your book and I have to say it's a very good read so far. Would love to get it autographed someday, but I doubt you come to Texas that often, haha. Well, keep moving ahead and stay positive. Can't wait to see what you do next. Much Love.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Wednesday, September 16, 2009

I am checking in to see how many positive responses and advice you're getting now Serena, and it is truly great. McEnroe helped halt the scourge (smile). I won't be writing anymore for a little while, as I think I have written too much already. But, please allow me to bring something very controversial and maybe a bit confusing to your attention. I have been observing how young, white, males, have viewed you and Venus over the years, and I must say, you and Venus are overall respected by them. That being said, If you don't already know this; many of them were extremely angry at you, and set up accounts just to tell how they felt. Many of them, believe it or not, were infuriated at you, not because of what you said to the lineswoman, although that was a factor, but because you spoke of Martina Navritolova, saying she was your idol. Because you and Venus (believe it or not) fit into a fantasy that they've created for themselves for many years (admittedly or not) they percieved you in a special kind of way (the internet speaks volumes too). Revealing that a WHITE LESBIAN was your "idol", was more than intolerable. Testosterone is very powerful. Ha ha. It was if their manhood was stepped upon. Some things are best left unsaid. You know what I mean?

Comment by : Mariana Schwartzmann Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Dear Serena. Of course you´re excused!!! You´re a wonderful girl and we know for sure what kind of personality and education you have. Much love from a brazilian big fan.

Comment by : Tyrell Jackson Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Serena, Though you are a strong black woman and an idol to many young girls and boys i think that you are awsome and futher most i am extremely tired of hearing about what happened at the U.S Open. So what if you lost your tempure who doesn't? The line judge was just another person just like you and me who receive harsh words from other people and some of the people in the audience should have been required to pay fines also with their rude asses. all i want you to know is that out of every man and woman tennis player ever you are my most favorite and if you aren't allowed into the Open next year then I'm not gonna watch and I'm sure a lot of people would agree unless Venus is on the court. I wish their was a chance that i could train with you because you are my idol and much love to you. Love' Tyrell Jackson

Definition of irony: Serena hawking a book called "On The Line" during a controversy regarding how she acted over a dispute if she was "on the line"! woohoo I will be here all week! First apology: I don't remember what I said! (first lie) I didn't threaten her (second lie) Oops 80% are against me guess I will apologize about how I acted over call being "on the line" so I can sale "On The Line" ! If you don't believe it look at her post! Buy On The Line! and send my your checks, praize jeezuz!xxxxxxxxxx Does anyone see this as transparently as I do? We are so used to athletes lying to the public we put up with it. I didn't do steroids, I didn't cheat on my wife, Who is Ron Mexico? Wasn't my dog. I didn't threaten that official. Let's hold our heroes accountable. Character still matters, just like a real apology does, We don't have either with Serena.

Comment by : Dorthy Murphy Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Hi Serena, I am a 65 year old black female, and one of your biggest fans. I was so upset about the way you were treated in the semi's, but I love your strength, and the way you handled the situation. I also think the sneaky little lines woman should have appoligized to you. I could have slapped her myself when I saw how she walked back to her seat with that sneaky little grin on her face. This cruel old world don't want you and Venus to be at the top, but you will always be number 1 in my book. So glad to see all the positive feedback for you. Keep on winning.

Comment by : Dorothy Kuhlman Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Well, Hallelujah!! You're human. You make mistakes. You apologize like any human being.....but you still have that very wonderful earned title of Champion. Serena, we make mistakes. We find out who has the grace to forgive and we move on. and that is what we call life. Be good to yourself....

Comment by : Lisa Frye Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Serena, why don't you donate the profits from your book to the Arthur Ashe Foundation. Don't you think that would be a great example of integrity and honoring to Arthur Ashe, the finest black athlete of all time? Critics would surely no longer guess the sincerety of your apology. Do you really need the money anyway? Just a suggestion.

Comment by : Maureen Mather Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Ms. Williams, I have been a tennis fan for more than half a century, and I have greatly enjoyed watching both you and your sister since you first joined the tour. I was more than disappointed when I watched your behavior at the U. S. Open. I was appalled many times over the years by tantrums thrown by McEnroe, Connors and Nastase, but I was never frightened by them. Your actions toward that linesperson was frightening. You keep speaking about "being in the moment," "staying positive," and "being human." What "moment" did you create for a woman who was so obviously terrified of you, who was older than you, much smaller than you, and much less powerful in every sense of the word? She, too, was human, and she made an incorrect call. Threatening to cram a tennis ball down her throat, even without the repeated expletives, was a physical threat which you made while advancing on her and brandishing your racquet. By the way, the linesperson didn't go to the Chair to report you. The Chair called her over, and she ran to get there! What kind of a moment did you create for that woman in front of millions of watchers? You have moved on, but I fear she is having nightmares. You had every right to challenge the call; you had every right to be upset, but you had no right to threaten, abuse and demean another human being. Surely your God Jehovah wasn't pleased. I doubt that you would have been so agressive if the linesperson had been a large and powerful man. You bullied that woman, because you were mad at yourself for your poor performance, and because you felt you could. In order to learn from our mistakes we must first be able to look them squarely in the eye and totally accept responsibility for them. I truly hope your are eventually able to do that. Maureen Mather

SERENA, SERENA, SERENA!!!!! SOMETHING GOOD WILL COME OUT OF THIS. WE HEARD YOU AND THEY DID TOO. YOU WANT THEM TO STOP CHEATING, LYING, AND TAKING AWAY SOMETHING YOU WORK SO HARD FOR. THIS WAS A WELL THOUGHT OUT PLAN. YOU NEED TO INVESTIGATE WHO DID THIS TO YOU AND FINE THEM. THERE WAS NO FOOT FAULT. I WATCHED THE REMATCH ON TENNISCHANNEL, RECORDED IT AND WATCHED IT AGAIN TWICE. THERE WAS NO FOOT FAULT. $1.6 MILLION DOLLARS IS NOT FAIR FOR KIM TO WALK AWAY WITH WITHOUT PLAYING FOR IT. I WOULD BE YELLING TOO.

Comment by : Lisa Frye Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Dorothy Murphy, Serena's behavior was not "strength", it was cowardly. It's how we behave in times of struggle that define who we are. Arthur Ashe certainly had the opportunity to be bitter and angry, yet he always showed his true character - full of integrity on and off the court. As a white woman, I have always taught my children to exemplify athletes of integrity, regardless of color. Self control and diplomacy will get you further in life than being a bully, which is what Serena was that night. While I certainly know that everyone makes mistakes, threatening others is a sign of entitlement. Please don't enable Serena. Hold her accountable for her actions. It is only then that she will be sincerely sorry.

I think bteween you and Vee it must have been at least 8 foot faults. I don't agree with your actions towards the linesperson but i understand. who wouldn't react on a call at match point. But my entourage was telling me how brave, strong and competitive I looked brandishing my racket at a girl who makes ten an hour half my size! What? they are ass kissers and have been coddling me? The want ME. The Serena Williams to apologize and mean it? Well I will apologize but won't mean it! But all my fans are saying this is racism cuz Johnny Mac did this all the time! What he got thrown out of a tournament to for doing something not quite as bad as what I did? Don't worry my fans are spineless sheep and will buy whatever I say! Buy my book! Whenever African American are done wrong, we are told to quickly get over it. Where was Patrick, John, and the other female commentators (whose name I will not memtion) when you and Venus were being unfairly treated on the tour. They will never make the money or have the fame God has blessed you and Venus with. Their venom will come back to visit them. As a "Witness" do not render evil for evil. They are trying to ride your coat-tail so that they can pay off some of their debts. You have a great team of people around you so gain comfort from them. At this point it has be come comical. Girl you better have some thick skin when you go on tour:) Do not ever let a crowd make or break you! Remember if these networks are not careful they will return to the pre- Willams Sister's rating! You have more people for you than against you. I pray your book makes the Best Seller's List! Love you in the Lord.

"Serena thinks everything is supposed to go her way, that's the bottom line," said mom/coach Oracene Price ... "She thinks that's the way it's supposed to go in life. But this is life." http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon08/columns/story?columnist=harwitt_sandra&id=3475225&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab3pos2 From ESPN article after losing at Wimbleton. I know you want to be a positive role model and tried to make amends to those who were offended by your comments, but don't waste your time. As an African American female you will never have the priviledge of playing on a level tennis court. Any one who follows tennis knows that a foot fault isn't called in a Grand Slam particularly, when you are serving for survival. The intent was to make certain you weren't able to make a comeback as you have done so many times before. The fans were cheated out of a spectacular match.

If Joe Wilson can go off on the president, an athlete under REAL stress is is subject to feel outraged at a suspect call when $350,000 is being competed for. Your comments are insignificant in comparison to what John McE used to do on a consistant basis. Don't let the haters slow your roll. Remember, you're still a high profile AA athlete in the USA. If u spit on the sidewalk someone is going to try to use that to sully your status.

Both Serena and Mac were penalized for bad behavior on the court. We need to stamp out black females and white males being discriminated on the court! Stop the madness!

Comment by : JAMES TERRANOVA Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Serena, your suppose to be a religious person ( a Jehovah's Witness?). My mother and sister are and I never hear them talk or act like that. Quit the act. ***Williams, whose U.S. Open attire included a Nike Inc. T- shirt that read, “Can’t Spell Dynasty Without Nasty!,” won’t lose support from the largest athletic-shoe maker for acting out the slogan. WE KNOW WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT- MONEY AND SPONSORS........The rest of your fans think its ok? Lydia Lindquist, you should talk to your elders in the congregation because you have issues......

Comment by : Fred Kelley Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Tina Fowler is such a gay dyke bitch hater!! She just cant deal with the fact that Serena is the better player and when she gets through kickin Kim Clijusters ass Tina is gonna really be pissed. Cause Kim cant win fairly.!! Were gonna piss on Kim Clijusters head!!

Terranova, there is no defense against the truth. It is what it is. Jesus Christ and Jehovah does the judging. Don't get on this site pretending your a witness. If you were, you would have been able to percieve the meaning behind the thought. If you need to talk to me personally, I will be more than happy to give you the address of the Kingdom Hall I attend. You can talk with me and my husband face to face. Don't ever challenge me. I am not your wife.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

Besides that Terranova, where did you ascertain that I approved of any slogans. Where is it written? You sound very judgemental and biased. I won't be angry with you, because I percieve you are a young person. Serena is learning. Many times, even YOU have not done according to ALL that God requires. We are all being refined by Jehovah. Stop judging least you be judged. Reread my advice to Serena again. Show it to your mother. Even If she is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I'm sure she can discern the truth. I don't apologize for giving loving, sound, advice.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

Terranova, I can take constructive criticism, and I can lovingly give it. I try to think about Proverbs 18:13 before I give my opinion in of a situation. It reads: When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears it, that is foolishness on his part and a humiliation.

Comment by : hawk pc Thursday, September 17, 2009

I have to get off this thread, I'm getting dumber just by reading them. I thought racism had to do with someone being discriminated against, but I guess it's just an excuse for anti social behavior......who knew?

Everyone that has a common sense moved on and can understand Serena, only the mental deviants keep repeating their poor negative comments about Serena over and over again. Miserableness of those ones seems to be endless. Aren´t they mary carillo in disguise?? Probably so!! Go to hell, focus on your own poor life and let Serena be alone, no one is interested in your empty talk.

EJ - TRINIDAD & TOBAGO: Serena, I have been following you and Venus for a long, long time. I must admit that I have always been more drawn to Venus. I still think that she is a better player than you, but you have more killer instinct, you may agree with me there. I also like Kim Clijsters, and I was impressed with the way you dealt with the situation when you shook Kim's hand before you left. I think that was a great gesture. I was very proud of you. I believe that Kim would have won the match anyway, but it was very unfair to you for that lineswoman to call that foot fault (when there was none) - it was a set-up. Congratulations to you and Venus for winning the Doubles Championship anyway. They can't stop you all. Don't give up, you will always be a champion. I was shocked at your outburst, but I don't think it was out of order totally. Anyone would have reacted in a case like that, but the expletives could be left out. Anyway, you did what you had to do by apologising and I hope it ends there. By the way, I think that lineswoman should apologise to you too. Stay Strong. Oh, I almost forgot. That interview with Regis and Kelly was cool. You did well and you looked gooood! Keep it up. Good luck with your book - I'll get myself one.

Comment by : Kurt Mathis Thursday, September 17, 2009

DAM! I missed it! I thought I had set the DVR to record it but I must have forgot!! When are you gonna grace the Lone Star State with you lovliness??? Hope it's not within the next few days because I'm sicker than all get out!! Wishing you well! God Bless!!

Comment by : Frank Knecht Thursday, September 17, 2009

You are really active in a lot of fields!! That's good for you and it shows that you have more than one interest. But do not neglect your specific talent, of which you still have more than any other player around. I don't think you have to "move on" or forget anything, you played a fantastic US open and that's all what matters. It would have not been your first win in a slam, so while of course you go into a tournament with the highest ambition (how could it be different?), you do not need to be down if a massive strike of bad luck has prevented your 12th triumph (or more, I have lost count).

Comment by : Leisha Benjamin Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hi Serena, I am so proud of you and how you've faced adversity head on. You took responsibility for your actions by openly apologizing from the heart to millions of people world wide, and that took guts. You can only go up from here. I wish all the best in upcoming events and future slams. You've got the hunger and fight for more, so keep it going. Much love to you and Venus. God Bless!

Comment by : hanecia@hotmail.com callaway Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hawk PC, you really gotta get a life and come out of the stone ages. You are a very angry person, but your issue isn't with Serena, it's with the government or the CIA or the NSA, whoever. But it certainly isn't Serena. She didn't do anything to you and really don't need money from a damn book. She wrote the book because her "FANS", wanted it. So OMFG, go back to your dingy little cave, until you can behave better. When you mess up in life, do you apologize to the world? Don't expect her to do it because she is a celebrity or a role model.

Comment by : Adrianna H Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hey that's great that the support was there. We all still love you!! Remember haters are just those who are unsatisfied in their own lives and that's why they are trying to bring you down!!!

Comment by : veronica oates Thursday, September 17, 2009

Serena, too bad that you're not stopping in Connecticut because I want to sign my book. Serena you and your sister are successful athletes and you and your sisters are in tennis history and they (haters) CAN'T NEVER TAKE THAT FROM YOU. So Serena! Keep on rolling!

Comment by : Andrew Moses Thursday, September 17, 2009

Sweetie, there's no more you need to say. Please don't let the idiots get to you.

Comment by : Carlton Sewell Thursday, September 17, 2009

A fellow lawyer sent some interesting statistics. "Only 31 foot faults were called during the women's singles draw of the US Open. Nine of them were called on Serena and Venus ... in two matches. Serena and Venus played 10 matches total, out of the 254 player matches in the tournament (127 matches, two players per match). So Serena and Venus played less than 4% of the US Open Women's draw and had at least 30% of the foot faults called on them." Some might find this result "statistically significant" (unlikely to have occurred by chance.)

Comment by : JOHN KUYA Thursday, September 17, 2009

I am from Kenya and am very grateful of what you are doing there. We will continue to support you on and off court. I am asking all the Kenyans in the USA to buy your book and help your foundation. Keep doing good things. You are an inspiration to me personally and will always be your fun. God Bless!!

Comment by : Vicki Goodburne Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hi Serena, I love everything about you. You might say that I'm obsessed. In a good way. I watched eveyone of your matches at the US Open. I just love to watch you play. You are so aggressive. I wish I could be more like that. I have to play in the state tournaments this weekend for mixed doubles and I am totally scared. I don't know how you do it. Keep up the good work.

Comment by : Leah de Palomo Thursday, September 17, 2009

Serena: You're a strong, multi-talented woman who is not afraid to take a risk, I admire that kind of person. I am impressed with your tennis as well as your business ideas and furthering your education. I can hardly wait to get your book! Don't change! You're just great the way you are. Also think your media interviews have been great. You come across as honest and sincere.

Comment by : Janet Dancey Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hey Tina Fowler, did you watch the TMZ video? Did you hear what Serena said? Let's put it all together now...... " I swear to god I should shove this f***ing ball down you're f***ing throat, you hear me? you hear me? you're frickin' lucky I don't do that, you're frickin' lucky I don't do that" All while shaking her racket and being at least 5 feet away from the lines judge. Now if anyone considers that a viable threat and actually fears for their life I would say that person is unreasonable and has some personal issues and/or biases. Oh yeah and who cares that Serena is the baby of the family and doesn't like to lose....she's usually of execellent composure and one serious meltdown doesn't define her core values. I too am the baby of the family and I don't like to lose either. I've snapped on few occasions when something angers me....I've screamed and gotten in the face of people who have done me wrong....but I am a kind, honest and caring person whose actions for the most part are good. Should I be suspended from life for my occasional meltdown????? Are you even a tennis fan Tina or do you just care because it's a hot topic right now?

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

I JUST SAW THE VIDEO. SERENA NEVER USED THE FU----- WORD. SHE SAID FREAKIN' OH THANK YOU MY LITTLE SISTER! THE ELDERLY JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES ARE SO RELIEVED. THE MEDIA TOLD A BALD FACE LIE. THE ATTACK WAS AGAINST YOU FOR BEING RICH, BLACK, FEMALE, AND JEHOVAH WITNESS. BELIEVE THAT! I DON'T CARE WHO BELIEVE'S SATAN EXIST. JUST WATCH HOW YOU AND VENUS ALONE HAVE BEEN TREATED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREEERS, SHOULD BE EVIDENCE ENOUGH FOR A FEW. STILL, YOU HAVE SO MANY WHO LOVE YOU, VENUS AND THE WHOLE FAMILY. STAY STRONG!

Comment by : Netis Fib Thursday, September 17, 2009

Its so unfair that people won't just let Serena enjoy fame and fortune without scrutinizing her behavior. Talk about a double standard....this NEVER happens to any other celebrity. So unfair! Might even be a triple standard.

Comment by : Janet Dancey Thursday, September 17, 2009

Lydia...sorry to disappoint you, but she did actually say the F word during the first part of her meltdown which was not on the TMZ video. I watched it live on TV and listened to it over and over again to make sure. But, at least during the second part she regained some composure and only said frickin'.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

NO JANET. SHE DID NOT SAY FU-----. I LOOKED AT HER LIPS OVER AND OVER. ARE YOU FOR, OR AGAINST SERENA? ARE YOU HERE TO DEFAME AND KILL HER CHARACTER. OR ARE YOU HERE TO UPBUILD AND ENCOURAGE HER TO BE A BETTER PERSON?

Comment by : Netis Fib Thursday, September 17, 2009

Lydia - don't worry about what she did or didn't say...we need to focus on how she is the victim here!

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

I LOOKED AT THIS VIDEO LOOKING AT HER LIPS AND LISTENING TO HER VOICE JANET. NO. SHE DIDN'T SAY FU-----. SHE CONSISTENTLY SAYS FREAKIN'. MY HEART BREAKS FOR THEM. THEIR OWN COUNTRYMEN TURNED ON THEM. THEY WERE PREPARED FOR THIS FOR MANY YEARS. THEIR FATHER TAUGHT THEM THAT THIS IS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN. THEIR MOTHER TAUGHT THIS. AND JEHOVAH'S ORGANIZATION TAUGHT THEM THIS. THAT IS WHY THEY ARE HOLDING UP. THEY HAVE BEEN MENTALLY TRAINED IN THE DISCIPLINE AND MENTAL REGULATING OF JEHOVAH. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THEY CAN SURVIVE. PPL ARE JEALOUS TO A SICKENING DEGREE. MANY ARE OUT OF WORK, AND OUT OF TIME.

Comment by : Janet Dancey Thursday, September 17, 2009

Don't attack me Lydia!!!!!!!!!!!!! And don't you DARE accuse me of doing or saying ANYTHING against Serena!!!! Who cares if she said the F word....I don't! I doubt God really cares either.

AND THANK YOU NETIS. I MUST BE GOING NOW.

Comment by : Janet Dancey Thursday, September 17, 2009

Janet. I may be a little anal about the subject. But really now, you would have let it go the first time when I said I didn't notice her saying the F word. It was YOU that kept it going. You brought it on yourself baby girl. I am being a bit petty right now, because I want to.

Comment by : Tina Fowler Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hi Janet Dancey ... well the thing that I got from watching the TMZ video was the level of anger in Serena's face as she came at the linesperson. You wrote what she said ... "I swear to god I should shove this f***ing ball down you're f***ing throat, you hear me? you hear me? you're frickin' lucky I don't do that, you're frickin' lucky I don't do that" All while shaking her racket" at the linesperson ... I'd say that was kind of threatening. The other videos only show her from the side ... but, with this one you see her from the spectators point of view ... coming at the linesperson.

Comment by : Tina Fowler Thursday, September 17, 2009

Hi again, Janet. You also asked, "who cares that Serena is the baby of the family and doesn't like to lose". I thought what Serena's mother had to say was interesting. I guess her Mom did, too ... since she shared it. .... "Serena thinks everything is supposed to go her way, that's the bottom line," said mom/coach Oracene Price ... "She thinks that's the way it's supposed to go in life. But this is life."

Comment by : Tina Fowler Thursday, September 17, 2009

And you asked, Janet ... "Are you even a tennis fan ...". Yes, I am and have been for a very long time. :)

Comment by : Tina Fowler Thursday, September 17, 2009

I've read complaints about the way Serena is portrayed on the networks ... I was looking over the NBC Wimbledon videos with Mary Carillo and Jimmy Roberts ... they had some wonderful (and deserving) things to say about Serena and Venus. (How quickly we forget :) and turn them into "haters".) .... http://sports.yahoo.com/video/player/ten/NBC_Sports_Wimbledon/14325215#ten/NBC_Sports_Wimbledon/14339105 ... Also, I remembered while watching the Wimbledon coverage that someone said one of the Williams sisters should have been seeded Number 1 at Wimbledon ... it was Mary Carillo ... "I'm not sure it's right at all that Dinara Safina is the top seed at Wimbledon. Venus has won it five times," said Mary Carillo, a former player working on ESPN2's telecasts. "Especially on grass, which is the surface where most people think the seeding committee can tweak and make changes, I truly believe that Venus deserves to be seeded 1." ... http://www.iol.co.za/?set_id=6&click_id=30&art_id=nw20090621202901317C729853 ... (The major tournaments can go against the point system of the WTA that determines the current number 1 player and 'seed' them in a different order ... but, unfortunately you can't give a person extra points in the WTA ranking so they will be number 1.) (But, she can still be number 1 in your heart.)

James Stravona how smal of you, it took a lot for you to follow her on her message board to voice your opinion, we don't need it. Go and give the WTA and the lineswoman some advice on how not to cheat, they can use it much more than Serena, Since she was the one that was cheated out of a match. I know she would have beat Kim, and you cannot tell me other wise. She is a the best and a damn good one at that. So take you comment and advise elsewhere.

Hi Lydia .... I think you are referring to the TMZ video. If you go back to the site ... and LOOK UNDER the video they write ... "The video starts a few seconds into Serena's explosion -- after she threatened the judge by saying, "If I could, I would take this f**king ball and shove it down your f**king throat." What you hear on the video at TMZ is AFTER .... "she threatened the judge by saying, "If I could, I would take this f**king ball and shove it down your f**king throat."

Comment by : Steve Narowanskie Thursday, September 17, 2009

I can't believe you haven't personally apologized to the lines person you threatened with your racket as you verbally abused her. It's getting to be a little late for this. I now think you should be banned from the major tournaments for one year. Monetary punishment would not be adequate. I hereby resign from your fan club. Shame on you. You know where you can put any extra tennis balls you may have. Tennis is obviously not a game for you. Please take up roller derby or wrestling, Women's wrestling. Steve N.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

I'll listen to three more times for emphasis. SI.com, a network site for CNN under Serena Williams read: "I feel as though tennis has never been so popular. Lead segment and on the news, hot topics in the blogosphere, hundreds of questions rolling in here. Were it not for Kanye West, we migh have had the president weighing in on Serena-gate. We may as well ride the wave with a quick post- O.S. open mailbag." Is it any wonder why the world is full of strife. The media "whores" propaganda.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

I saw the video on WilliamsYtube, and TMZ.com. Serena DID NOT say fu----- She said freakin' every time. It may be advisable in the future that we not use that word at all. That way, no one trample upon our freedom of speech!

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Thursday, September 17, 2009

Steve, wake up! She apologized three times for emphasis. She doesn't need to bow down to you or anyone else. Read her statement above. She doesn't owe you anything. And mind your own business.

Comment by : Dorthy Murphy Thursday, September 17, 2009

Lisa Frye - You're such an idiot. If Serena was white like you, nothing would have been said, or done about her actions. You said her actions were cowardly. Serena was defending a bad call made towards her.....how is that being a coward? Arthur Ashe was from a different generation, and if you think we as black people will continue to keep quiet when we are treated unfairly, you had better think again. You're probably treating your children to be just like yourself. Serena and Venus have always had points taken from them in the past. The linesman who called 7 foot faults on Venus was just as crooked as the lines woman who called the foot fault on Serena. I wonder why, with so many tennis atheletes....Serena and Venus are the only one's called for foot faults.

Comment by : Tina Fowler Thursday, September 17, 2009

What you hear on the video at TMZ is AFTER .... "she threatened the judge by saying, "If I could, I would take this f**king ball and shove it down your f**king throat." The person in the stands filming the video now at the TMZ site didn't start filming right away .... so missed out on the first two f**kings. But, you know .... there's no dispute Serena did say she wanted to shove the ball down the linesperson's throat ... which of course is worse (to me) than cursing.

In life we make mistakes, of course unintentional. If you do something wrong intentionally then it's not a mistake. What matters most is making a mistake and taking ownership of it by admitting your mistake. You're forgiven and still held in high esteem. Take that as a learning curve.

I enjoy all your tennis matches and can't wait until your next! I did want to mention tho, that the fault calls were the worst I've ever seen in any other tournament! You players should have disputed every call that the chair and lines person called. I would like to know how many calls were overturned after the players disputed their ruling. I felt bad for the players that didn't dispute a call and lost the match because of it. You got a bad call also! Even JM said that she should never make such a stupid call in such a momentous occasion in the match. I don't think any of those officials had ever played tennis before!

Just a note ... it seems the user formerly going by the name Lydia Lindquist ... has changed the name to Bob Lindquist. So, any postings that begin... 'Hi Lydia' and were in response to a message she/he left .... now refer to Bob Lindquist.

In my opinion, the foot fault was called because CBS sports foresaw your lengthy comeback, and realized that there high rated 60 Minutes would not be seen at its regular time.

Good Afternoon Serena, I watched your interview on CNN with Kelly and May I say your were just Wonderful!! I have been watching your career since 1998 and I remember the Boo's and how cordial and gracious u were at the opens. When u clinch that Title in 1999 I was so elighten that I cried for U. Your a Beautiful and honest Sister and I commend you for that. But just look how God has rewarded you for your diligence and humility. Yes, were human you were absolutely correct to say 1 mere episode of bad judgement will not tant your career. Your True Fans will understand and we definitely feel your pain and we reward your triumphs. Congratulations on the book and please try to come to Jacksonville Florida for a book signing. I would love to meet and greet you and definitely buy your book. I am unemployed right now but I definitely will still patronize your career cause you definitely deserve it. My mother started me watching Tennis as U and Venus started your career and I have always watch or recorded your matches. Remember when we used to record on the VHS, I still have some of those tapes LOL! Congrats again and your interview was Awesome. I had my whole family watching you and patronizing you on HSN. Thank you for being Real and Classy Serena the best is yet to come! Always remember your greatness and trust in your own direction and understanding. Girlfriend it's your time now Shine!! (smile)

Comment by : RON ENNIS Saturday, September 19, 2009

We haven't heard from you in 2 days. Did you really beat Andy Rodick in a match?

Comment by : Salvador Enriquez Saturday, September 19, 2009

Seren, I read your book and I loved it. You are such a positive person and always have been; and I am extremely proud of that. You know there are some folks such as Maureen Mathers and others who feel holier than thou and even bring Jehova into the argument. I feel really said for this people b/c had they been in a situation where someone with authority had done something wrong against them in a crucial point in their lives, I know they would not have acted any differently. You have done the right thing you have accepted responsibility for your actions and apoligized. And even though you were not the only person who made mistakes that night, I still have not heard an apology from the lines woman to you and the fans; I still have not heard an apology from the US Open officials for ruling for reacting so harshly and inadequately towards you and the fans. The bottom line is you did not cause this incident it was the lines wonam who over officiated, the officials for over reacting and the umpire for being so quick to make a judgement against you without even looking into whether the lines woman called the foot fault in error. Where were the official in 2004 when you had all of those errornous calls made against you, why didn't they come out then to replace the empire. The truth is, had you been white, you would have been allowed to continue playing, the call would have been corrected and right now everyone would be singing Kumba Ya. Lets face it you play in a sport that is still racist driven. To everyone passing judgement on you, look at the facts than pass judgment, none of this was started by Serena, so stop harrassing her!

Comment by : sharky egley Saturday, September 19, 2009

First of all unlike some of the peoples comments i do not believe the call was racially motivated. Serena, you as well as, venus have ruled tennis for quite sometime and are a major factor in why women and men get equal pay. I think the calls were bad and i think the bad call combined with the heat of the moment and your passion for the sport made for a bad combination and you did what we expect from you and you apologized and showed why your a class act and everyone made wayyyyyy too much out of the situation. Your fans, true fans, still love and support you. Got the book and its awesome so far keep up the good work and keep the faith. much love, ~sharky

Sorry, Tyrell, serena didn't just lose her temper and scream and shout and stamp her feet, she actually physically threatened to harm another human being by shoving a tennis ball down her throat, did you not watch it....it was a disgusting show of behaviour. She should not only been kicked out of the matches, she should have been arrested for threatening assault, this has nothing to do with hatred, Donald, she did this act herself, words were her own out of her own mouth, and it isn't tolerated by anyone else, so why should it be tolerated for her? Poor sportsmanship of the year award goes to her. And all she could say, was she "didn't play my best".....sorry, serena, suck it up, you lost and should not be able to play again for fear of hurting someone. People should be very afraid of you.

Have you never heard the saying: 'to err is human, to forgive is divine? Serena moved on and is making her money, and tending to her business. Move on with YOUR lives now.

Comment by : Tina Fowler Monday, September 21, 2009

Yes, Lydia Lindquist, as you wrote, “Serena moved on and is making her money, and tending to her business.” … which is what this is all about isn’t it … money not honor.

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Monday, September 21, 2009

And what business woman do you know that makes money, and gives money, is not worthy of honor?

Comment by : lydia Lindquist Monday, September 21, 2009

And she doesn't owe any one of anything, but to entertain us while making her money. It is my experience, as well as those who truly have her best interests at heart, believes she is worthy of honor, not worship. People disappoint themselves by idolizing other humans. When they get disappointed by them, then they hate them intensely.

Comment by : gloria turner Monday, September 21, 2009

Hey Serena, I am a 64 yr. old black woman, I really enjoy you and Venus playing tennis, I have so much faith in the two of you, so please play your best at all time, no one can beat you all. I don't move or do anything when you are playing. Serena, what God has for you is for you. I wished I had a father like yours that was so determined for you all to be the best in tennis, may be I could have achieved also. But keep your head up. Don't forget when ever you are in Houston give me a call, we are going to have a little cooking class, Louisiana style. Mrs. gloria

Hey Serena, I just got the book and will be reading it soon. I also just saw that now Justine Henin is coming back. Maybe she feels she may have the fortune Kim did. But I hope you and Venus put an end to that. I appreciate you saying now you have some competition and I really hope and pray that you and Venus are ready for these girls, especially in 2010. America does not appreciate you but I sure do. Love You Serena, keep on stepping.

Comment by : Curtis Jones Tuesday, September 22, 2009

So, anyone who criticizes Serena's juvenile behavior is a "hater?" Just wondering: does anyone think Serena was "hating" on the tiny Asian woman who was serving as line judge? Does that make Serena a "hater" too? Are you a "hater" if you threaten to shove a f****** tennis ball down someone's f****** throat? And then you go back a second time with more threats? And then you lie about it? And then you don't apologize until your PR firm writes one for you? Sure seems like "hatin'" to me.

Our league is growing( Women's Football Alliance) and I think it would be awesome for you or your sister to speak about your hard work and dedication in becoming one of the best female atheletes in the world. It was funny, my sister and I were the first sister's to play women's football in 2002. Please check us out at www.kcspartans.com. Love to hear from you.

Comment by : Floyd Stallings Monday, September 28, 2009

Serena, What is the mark of a true champion? Is it your number of wins? Is it the amount of money you make. I believe the mark of a true champion is honor and integrety, when you win AND when you lose. My family, including my kids had respect for you, until we sadly witnessed your behavior at the US OPEN. I hope you realize how many young children you let down and no longer a Champion in their eyes. We believe the apology came from your handlers, and the fact that you had a book you wanted to promote and not from the heart. Children want to believe in heros and role models, we believe as a family you've destroyed aspirations in so many children in the the world that looked up to you. You probably will never see this email but millions of children and there families saw you at the US OPEN and we will never forget.

Serena I am sure your book is fabulous, but for the present time things are mighty bad for my husband and I. I won't be able to afford your book. Our little finances are NIL to none and that's pretty deep. We do support you from the TV and offer advice when you are playing, but we know you can't hear us, but somehow you manage to amaze us every time. You seem to do what we are thinking...amazing. We are just screaming at the TV, and that is the closest I can get to you! I wish so that you could hear our support for you. We do care a great deal for you and your sister and are very proud of the way all has turned out! May Jehovah continue to send you blessings beyond belief, and desires. I am thankful everytime I see you play, it is just soooo FABULOUS. Angela

Dear Ms. Williams, I was one of the fortunate folk to buy three books and have them signed by you. I would have preferred peronalized signings, but I understood the situation. I also wanted a picture with you for myself and to show off to my friends. I've worked with your father and you at the US OPEN is my capacity of driver in the SUV vehicles. My wife and I did that to meet your family, but we still have our own contact that we want to establish. One is in Fashion and that's my wife. Check her at www.jwhstyle.com If Joan meets you, I'm satisfied.

Comment by : Zachary Husser, Sr. Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Dear Ms. Williams, On another note, I wanted to make a recommendation that your Sister and You contact Mr. Carl Crump at www.CarlandDeniseCrump@aol.com and actually have some "real" discussion with them. Carl has property in St. Thomas and they want to speak with Venus and You about setting up a Tennis Academy in St. Thomas, VI. This Brother and his wife Denise are very serious business folks. Otherwise, I would not bring them to your attention. Do the people of St. Thomas and the Williams Sisters a favor by connecting with Carl Crump!

Serena, First of all my mom and I love you and Venus. You two are the best thing that ever happend to tennis. I saw you and Venus when you were like 8 and 10 at the Arcadia Tournament. Your dad introduced himself, since he saw another black parent watching their child. My son was playing in the 16's. Anyhow.when you go back to tennis, work on your footwork, the only reason you lose is because of footwork. you should take some dance lessons along with your footwork drills, trust me it will assure you of the number spot. After all, that's where you belong.

Hey Serena, I know you are busy but I am glad that you are still humble enough to respond to us. I just wanted to encourage you in the Lord and ignore the negativity that the media stressfully tries to portray you as especially as of late. I know you are an emotional tennis player, but you have to admit, sometimes you express that in a way that others do not take in a positive manner. You are who are and no should take that away from you, but do not fuel the fire of the media anymore than they try to put on you. Keep up the good work and stop making all those matches so hard and dramatic, you got me on the edge of my seat but I love to see you comeback and play like the true champion that you are. :-) (LOL) It's all good sista! You all are making history everyday you and V. I love you all, the whole family. Keep living for the Lord and keep loving others as yourself. I know it's kind of wordy, but thanks for listening. P.S. Respectfully, I think you are a very beautiful woman and blessed in many ways and behalf of all the male viewers (LOL) thank you for keeping it sexy for us in more ways than one. :-) You and V, but more so you, are one of the main reasons why I started watching tennis so many years ago. Take care. xxxxx
