Serena Strides Into Semis of US Open

NEW YORK: Serena Williams has put in another solid performance and in doing so has secured a place in the semi finals of the US Open.
Serena was never really troubled by tenth seed Flavia Pennetta. She broke the Italian's serve to love in the tenth game of the first set to close that and from then on pretty much rolled through the match winning 6-4, 6-3 in one hour 15 minutes.
The match ended with a blistering forehand passing shot down the line and Serena was so excited with the win that she threw her racquet into the air. She was so pumped.
"Overall I think that it was, you know, a totally different match for me," Serena said. "You know, really consistent player, so, yeah, it was interesting. It was good. Flavia is clearly a good player, and I was definitely not underestimating her. I thought it was a really good match. You know, she also has a good spirit."
In the semis she takes in Kim Clijsters who is making a return to tennis. This will be the ninth between them and the head-to-head is 7-1 to Serena. The first time they met was here at the Open in 1999 and Serena won a close three setter. Their last meeting was over six years ago in Miami which Serena also won.
Clijsters has been away from the game for quite some time; she got married and had a baby and now she's come out of retirement.
"Yeah, she's a really good player. She plays tough. She plays hard. Now it's like a totally different level, because she has absolutely nothing to lose. She just kinda is - I think that's when you can play your ultimate best tennis," Serena said. "
Serena has watched some of the matches that Clijsters has played. The Belgian beat Venus a couple of rounds ago.
"I just saw how well she moved. Seems like she is even faster than what she was before," Serena said. "I was thinking that maybe I should have a baby and then I'll come back faster. That was my observation, so I'm thinking about it. I thought she's moving just as good as she was before she left. I don't know if she's faster or not. I mean, she hasn't definitely lost a step."

Serena, I have been a fan of yours and Venus's since you two first burst on the scene, and I am still, to this very day one of your biggest fans. Everytime you lose or Venus loses, I am hurt. I work at Arthur Ashe stadium; so, I get to watch you and Venus practice. For me, it's exciting, because I've never gotten to experience the atmosphere of such a major event. Anyway, I have some words of wisdom for you: everything you need to win is inside of you--your heart; though thousands of people may be against you, it's okay--you don't need them to win your matches; fight to the end, and you will win; and, finally, you are a champion, and fight, fight, and fight. Remember that champions always find a way to win. Don't make anybody else's career like you did for Sharapova at Wimbeldon. Fight, fight, and fight! You will win!

Serena Strides into a semi at the US open. Serena, why did you drive a Semi-tractor trailor truck to the U.S. Open? When did you get a CDL truck drivers license? You mean you know how to test air brakes? I dont understand that, but I guess you have to be a woman of many skills. I just dont see you as a truck driver. I dont think you should chew tabacco or say good buddy on a CB radio. I dont know but thats just me. And now comes Clijsters and things really get interesting. Time for you to do what your famous for, Serena; i.e., elevate your game as the competition stiffens and the championship is within reach. If you both play as if you have nothing to lose and no one gets tight, this one should be a real treat for the eyes. Shame Henin is not still around to come out of the other bracket so that the drama could build further to an even higher level in the finals.

Serena, great win. Focused, fit & fabulous! Okay after you beat Clijsters, you need to show the youngster that humility goes a long way. It is okay to be confident but there is a thing as respect.
